I’m really really happy this series didn’t get approval. This pilot is a steaming pile of shit. It has nothing to do with Clerks – (1994 movie) and so it cannot build on its mystique, and it isn’t even particularly original or interesting on its own.

This is the single pilot episode. The full series was never produced.
Kevin Smith, the author of Clerks – (1994 movie) was unaware of this proposed TV show until its casting was under way, during his production of Mallrats – (1995 movie)

While this might have been good at the time, and particularly notable because of the nudity, it’s only vaguely entertaining like a sort of late-night TV-movie. It’s too low-brow compared to science f
iction movies, too adult compared to fantasy movies and too childish for grownups.

A child with an allergy to peanuts hallucinates an indian statue as Tonto telling him a story with the Lone Ranger.

Johnny Depp has started taking terrible cornball roles, and this movie is a steaming pile of shit. His native-American character feels cringeworthingly blackface-esque. I can see how the occasional comedic bit can make a movie fun, but the entire spirit of this movie feels just a touch too serious for there to be the right comedy-adventure feeling like that in Pirates of the Caribbean꞉ The Curse of the Black Pearl – (2003 movie).

In a future Tokyo which has survived a massive explosion, a highschool student motorcycle gang stumbles into a military research program whose earlier efforts lead to that disaster, and they become embroiled in the revived project.

A genre-defining movie on so many levels. It portrays a world unique to those unfamiliar with manga (a form of Japanese comics) and has both great storytelling and incredible animation.

Having discovered an interplanetary teleporter, humans bumble around by sending teams through to other worlds.

Pretty good. It’s definitely got the “TV series” feel to it, which explains how many seasons there are.

See Stargate viewing order. This series follows from Stargate – (1994 movie)
- Watching that movie is not mandatory to watch this series.
- This series has different actors.
The stylized “A” in the title (with the middle bar missing and the circle over it) is a reference to that symbol representing the Earth when programming a stargate.

A kid goes mad and then vigilante after witnessing the murder of his mother.

This is nothing like batman, honest. This is an awkward movie that would have been better off cut-down and presented as a series pilot. A series made of this would, of course, have failed. While this movie does present a better angle for the insanity behind vigilanteism, it’s lacking overall. I don’t empathise with the character at all, which I think is the entire point of this angle of movie.

I don’t see a point to watching this. At best it’ll probably go into events or trends or whatever that reveals stupidity. It’s telling me the things I live as though I’m not aware of them.
