They band together to save the planet from Galactus, a world-consuming alien.

Mediocre.

A military science experiment haunts local Yugoslavians when the infected turn into madmen.

An amateurish zombie movie with nothing interesting to add to the genre. It’s worth a watch if you’re zombie movies, otherwise don’t bother.

The show was cancelled after two seasons, at which time I stopped caring enough that when I learned it had been un-cancelled I continued to not care.

A psychologically-disturbed young man’s fantasies spiral out of control as he pursues a lunatic’s dream for economic anarchy.

Fast and loose. This is one of those shows which tries to cash in on this generation’s theme of general discontent. It generally fails. More-or-less entertaining.

For everyday people this is somewhat recommended. For fans of psychological stuff, and anti-corporatism, this is somewhat recommended. For people who know enough about computers but don’t like psychological stuff or anti-corporatism, I do not recommend this.

Fight Club (1999) poster

A corporate drone goes mad and spirals into psychopathy, violently lashing out at society.

An absolutely mandatory film. As heavy-handed as its anti-corporatism is, it has fantastic subtleties requiring multiple viewings. There are very few movies which can achieve this level of watchability. This is absolutely an A-class dudebro movie.

A time capsule shot into space back in 1982 is received as a declaration of war by aliens, who respond with multiple waves of 1980s video games-made-real, which only lifetime-loser video game nerds can face.

Uh. From the ground up, this movie cannot work. It’s a kids movie which relies upon the nostalgia only a handful of middle-aged men might have but hopefully won’t.

Navy Seals vs. Zombies (2015) poster

Baton Rouge, Louisiana is ground zero for a zombification-virus.

While not great, it could have done a whole lot worse. Navy Seals vs. Zombies is probably worth a watch for zombie and military fans, if there’s nothing better around.

I didn’t get through it. It had nothing interesting to offer me.

Naked Lunch (1991) poster

A struggling writer takes drugs, giving him incredible results with unforeseen consequences.

This is an uncomfortably-great movie. It’s semi-horror in the sense of a tactile empathy the viewer has. I don’t know that I’d consider this mandatory viewing, because it would strongly depend on the viewer. I don’t think this would be a “love it or hate it” movie, because it’s .. just odd. It’s original, and that alone would make it mandatory viewing for some.

Aliens come to earth and offer their technology but have ulterior motives.

V is another show which got cut before it got into its plot. I might be biased because of my appreciation for its subtleties and the previous TV show and TV-movies.

I do like it, and I wish it continued. I don’t consider this recommended viewing for people unfamiliar with the earlier works because it doesn’t get into its complete story.

While doing everyday things in space, debris tears through everything leaving survivors on a desperate yet somehow extremely slow-paced race to survive.

Not memorable in any way. Do not watch.

They Live (1988) poster

A down-and-out traveler discovers a pair of sunglasses which let him see through the illusions aliens have been using to control mankind.

With overtones of the manipulation of the everyman, I would easily put this movie in the same class as Nineteen Eighty-Four. However, the otherwise weighty impact is cushioned by comedy, great characters and a great story. Though old, this movie stands the test of time. Easily considered satirical-horror, there’s much more to it.

This is, in a sense, a bubblegum movie that delivers a subtler message. It tickles the viewer’s cognitive dissonance. Some viewers will easily “get it”, and some will merely find it entertaining. I hope those between those two groups will be particularly intrigued.

Mandatory viewing.
