A quirky young woman crushes on a weird artsy guy.

This is quirkier than it's characters, and is worthy of earning seventeen times its budget.

  • Original title: Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain

A Beauty and the Beast story about a warrior poet man who feels unworthy of love because of his appearance.

It's absolutely no comparison to Cyrano de Bergerac - (1950 movie), so much so that I have to flag this as disliked!

The past returns to haunt a retired crime boss.

Quite watchable. I think it's trivially surpassed by a lot of movies, but this has a reasonable simplicity without creating too much of a superhuman protagonist.

A special forces undercover guy is sent as himself to rapid-infiltrate a group of bad guys to stop a terrorist plot, but he's s nice guy deep down (or something).

Very watchable, and very French. If you know and like your French military/police type movies, you'll like this.

Bad Guys want to blow up a shithole to make money in rebuilding.

It's okay I guess, but the writing is off and it's frequently a tired revisitation of the earlier movie.

In a downtrodden future France, a washed-out fighter struggles to raise money until he is offered a combat performance drug.

Very nice all around. Highly recommended.

People vanish.

There are a bunch of areas where it might have shined, but it falls flat, and hard. It has a particularly unsatisfying ending.

Le Samouraï - (1967 movie) image

A hitman is witnessed just after a job, and becoming a suspect pushes his employers put a hit out on him.

While I can imagine this being really cool at the time, it certainly isn't any more. It has a slow moody atmosphere with a main character stiff enough to be a walking corpse. It's also just shy of being a silent film.

I only finished watching it because of the similarity Ghost Dog - (1999 movie) has with it, because I like that movie.

A woman in a wheelchair goes on vacation alongside various religious tourists.

I couldn't get to the half-way point without succumbing to boredom. This movie has a kind of absence of flavour that drones on like one unwavering tone. I don't know how the hell this movie got into my inbox, perhaps as a reality-questioning movie. Maybe it got into interesting things later, but I was unwilling to give it that chance.

It had no explosions or lasers.
