Leftovers from a previous movie come back to haunt The Avengers, who tear themselves apart because they lack conflict resolution skills.

Another superzero movie. Only good if you’re not just into this genre, but into this series. Other movies set in this universe must be watched to appreciate some of this one.

  • Properly titled Captain America: Civil War

Yawn.

A privileged white nerd-boy never got his patriarchy membership card, so he sets up the most powerful being on earth by using astonishingly advanced alien technology because astonishingly advanced alien technology isn’t good enough and he has to take down competitive patriarchy because something about good and god and evil and stuff.

This movie makes no fucking sense on so many levels, I may as well give it that fuckmenazi description. Characters don’t make sense. Motivations don’t make sense. Lots of action that didn’t need to happen, or happened in the wrong way.

A character that gets whipped up out of nowhere, who only the comic book nerds will vaguely recognize.. and not even understand. Does anyone think all the little comic book nerd boys always wanted to be a woman-superhero? Uh, no. So not popular. So having no explanation, she was dropped in as a deus ex machina. A hot awesome one, but terribly-written and disruptive.

Furthermore, the appearance of The Flash (who I had to look up), made no fucking sense whatsoever. It wasn’t even a deus ex machina, it was entirely unnecessary and confusing fluff.

Yet another bland superhero movie.

  • Properly titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
  • Yes, it’s properly titled Batman v Superman, because American theatre-goers know neither “versus” nor “vs.”.

A plague hits New York and then the world, and New York operatives are activated to do stuff and things.

Not bad for a short-ish film. There are some characters who do stuff, and there is some plot-like activity. Recommended for fans of what I call the “ruined world” genre.

The Sum of Histories (2015) poster

A pair of scientists learn they can push electrons back in time and can send emails.

Calm, enthralling, and deeply moving. This movie does all the right things with science fiction and time travel. It keeps the core values of the characters, lets things make just enough sense to have the audience both engaged, confused and planning ahead, and has a romantic streak to it.

Highly recommended!

A genius-recluse works on artificial intelligence, and brings in a young man to test his most recent success.

I don’t know what it says about me, but I find this movie innocent, beautiful, and deeply disturbing. I honestly don’t think it would be moral of me to recommend this to anyone except as a sort of cautionary tale of the inevitable.

Hackers (1995) poster

Haunted by a criminal hacking change in his youth, a genius highschool student revives those skills when he makes new friends and discovers a nefarious plot from Superman III. (1983).

This movie is comically fun with enough nods to actual stuff to make it laugh-out-loud for its superiors. I don’t know if (or how) I could recommend this to anyone for any reason. It’s dated in every respect, unrealistic and cheesy with no sign if that’s intentional or not.. yet somehow I enjoy it.

I’d say it’s worth watching for anyone born in the late 70s and early 80s who was into tech in their youth. Even then it’s a weak recommendation. For anyone else, pass. Just. Just pass.

  • PG-13 but has a topless woman sex scene.

The fates of two dumbasses is challenged by an man from their future, bent on bending their future-utopia into his world-domination.

An excellent movie. Though it does suffer from some generation-drift, it suffers far less than its predecessor. It’s not childish, but it is light enough to be “young”. Enjoyable, well-written and recommended. Grab a beer and some popcorn with your buddies and enjoy this at least once.
