While the primary fleet is away, fresh-recruits are sent to investigate a distress call from an allied planet.

A reboot and alternate-timeline of the series. It’s “good”, but is also the bubblegum one ought to expect these days.

A comedic commentary of Aeon Flux – (2005 movie).

Although amusing and with a few laugh-out-loud moments, this is mostly a waste of time. The RiffTrax concept might be nice for either fans or haters of a film, but this RiffTrax of this movie was not particularly entertaining to me. I’ll likely get into other RiffTrax’s later, so perhaps my opinion will change, but for now I don’t recommend this.

In a ruined world, the last remaining city is revealed to be populated by clones, the need of which the lead scientist hopes to cure but his brother works to persist.

Overall a decent flick, but with great music that quickly becomes over-the-top with its loud pervasiveness. It starts strong, but its big ending action sequence looks cheesy as all hell. I can tentatively say I like this movie. I have, after all, seen it multiple times. Something in me is saddened somehow, as though this movie should have been better but I can’t put my finger on it. I’m not familiar with its source material, but I expect those who are would have more grounds to find fault with this movie.

A girl kills her father, blows up her house to hide the evidence and flees the scene.

While this might have been good at the time, and particularly notable because of the nudity, it’s only vaguely entertaining like a sort of late-night TV-movie. It’s too low-brow compared to science f
iction movies, too adult compared to fantasy movies and too childish for grownups.

I’ll add notes when I re-watch this.

Akira (1988) poster

In a future Tokyo which has survived a massive explosion, a highschool student motorcycle gang stumbles into a military research program whose earlier efforts lead to that disaster, and they become embroiled in the revived project.

A genre-defining movie on so many levels. It portrays a world unique to those unfamiliar with manga (a form of Japanese comics) and has both great storytelling and incredible animation.

An ancient discovery in Egypt, from before the pyramids, is found to be a gateway to another world which is still kept as a slave planet by Ra, a self-appointed god who is an alien just trying to get by.

A fantastic movie. Not exactly mandatory. Perhaps elements of it don’t feel like they have held up well, or maybe there has been so much excellent science fiction before, during and since its time.

A stargate is shown to connect to another galaxy, but the trip proves to be one-way and fraught with new evils.

Fairly good, I guess. It’s definitely not as good as Stargate SG-1 – (1997-2007 show) but is a mandatory view if you like that show.

Alien Strain (2014) image

Entertainment > Movies >

The schizophrenic perspective of a man regarding his girlfriend.

This is one of those movies whose accurate description would spoil it. Overall I liked this movie, but I can easily see how others would not like this style of story telling. I strongly disliked the overall pacing and resolution. They seemed mistimed and more and more rushed toward the end.

While I liked it well enough, this isn’t a movie I’d re-watch and isn’t something I’d generally recommend. Lovers of a certain topic or flavour of movie would probably like this one, but it would be impossible to know how to match those people with this movie.

Hitman (2007) poster

I’m not sure how to describe this movie. It’s .. it doesn’t have the sort of consistency that makes it stick in memory enough to try.

It both feels like it has a plot line and that it’s all over the place. Overall it neither crafts a “feeling” nor has memorable characters. It was watchable enough to get through it all without really cringing, but it’s definitely not re-watchable and I wouldn’t recommend it even as bubblegum viewing. It’s successor, Hitman – Agent 47 (2015)[doesn’t exist], is way better.

  • Trailer
  • Executive producer.. Vin Diesel? Oh.
