A distracted surgeon crashes his car and is left with ruined hands, but he’s brought into a magic order who defend the planet and universe and stuff.

A decent movie, although fluffy and of narrow scope.

Rescued from an unknown realm, a demon, raised as a monster-hunting government agent, faces his destiny and the destruction of the world.

A rather good movie, because it features a relatable and mortal character. The time of its release was not saturated with this genre, so it was gave a strong impression. Even re-watching it was entertaining. I think this will hold up very well over time.

X-Men - Apocalypse (2016) poster

An Old One is awakened, and renews his takeover of the world.. except we already know the good guys win because this takes place in the 80s and a past movie, set in the then-future, has an intact world with all characters accounted for.

A standard superhero movie, with nothing particularly interesting. Extremely confusing given that this is a sequel to a sequel to a prequel or some shit.

I would have done a few things different, and even a few subtle changes would have made this movie a hell of a lot better.

Definitely pass on this unless you’re really into this particular series.

  • Properly titled X-Men: Apocalypse

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) poster

The fates of two dumbasses is challenged by an man from their future, bent on bending their future-utopia into his world-domination.

An excellent movie. Though it does suffer from some generation-drift, it suffers far less than its predecessor. It’s not childish, but it is light enough to be “young”. Enjoyable, well-written and recommended. Grab a beer and some popcorn with your buddies and enjoy this at least once.

The Crown and the Dragon (2013) poster

Something about a coronation, a dragon, a prophesy, a paladin and probably some other stuff.

A solid story, executed well, but something about it seems off to me. Perhaps it’s a budget issue. I’d bet the high-budget films have spoiled things for the others. Recommended (only) for fantasy fiction enthusiasts.

The gods fuck around and threaten all mortals, but it’s up to one mortal to help a downtrodden god to be a not-downtrodden god and save the day.

The day is saved. Entertainment was had. Possibly worth a watch, but I think it’s fluff even for for movies like this one.

Dragonheart 3 - The Sorcerer's Curse (2015) image

A dragon, having, for unknown reasons, landed as a meteorite but on top of a clutch of eggs and somehow not damaging them, heals a not-knight who risked his life for the eggs but actually to steal them is cursed to become the slave of a druid who is for some reason called a sorcerer.

This is basically a high-quality TV-movie but released for the big screen. It’s not dependent on the other movies in this series, which is probably for the best. It’s not great, not particularly good and only worth a one-time watch for people who are fans of this sort of genre.

  • This is a prequel to the series, set about 100 years before the first movie.
  • Properly titled Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer’s Curse

Dragonheart - A New Beginning (2000) image

The last dragon has been hidden away for fear of his corruption as foretold by a prophesy, but he is discovered by an equally-innocent youth looking for fame, fortune and adventure.

As a TV-movie, it’s not horrible. It’s still most definitely a TV-movie though. This is not B-quality, just TV-quality. Overall it’s not terrible, just not my thing. It very slightly borrows from DragonHeart – (1996 movie), but the proper movie is not mandatory watching.
