The Sum of Histories (2015) poster

A pair of scientists learn they can push electrons back in time and can send emails.

Calm, enthralling, and deeply moving. This movie does all the right things with science fiction and time travel. It keeps the core values of the characters, lets things make just enough sense to have the audience both engaged, confused and planning ahead, and has a romantic streak to it.

Highly recommended!

A girl, hiding in a church, writes a letter to the police who, without evidence, raise a stink.

I couldn’t get half way through this. Not only do the various genres in this movie not interest me, but it highlights “listen and believe”. I fucking guarantee that’s why Emma Watson is in this.

A man.. uh.. something about some mercenary missions and people dying and a magic thing and such.

I only saw this out of reverence to The Scorpion King – (2002 movie). Oh gods, the badness-potential of this genre is astonishing. Ignore this, and go watch Hercules – The Legendary Journeys – (1995-1999 show) instead. It is the gold standard of badness.

I think what really offends me about The Scorpion King (2,3,4) is that they cost money to watch, where a TV show would have been (more or less) free.

A bounty hunter hunts a bounty but there’s a princess therefore save the princess instead.

Oh god, this is like an episode of Hercules – The Legendary Journeys – (1995-1999 show). Old school TV-quality, reasonably fun for low expectations.

This is riding on the coat tails of the earlier actual-movie, desperately hoping that fans will consider all of this a “series”. Sigh, it is not.

A genius-recluse works on artificial intelligence, and brings in a young man to test his most recent success.

I don’t know what it says about me, but I find this movie innocent, beautiful, and deeply disturbing. I honestly don’t think it would be moral of me to recommend this to anyone except as a sort of cautionary tale of the inevitable.

A kid swears revenge for his father’s unjust death, and has adventures and stuff along the way.

Fairly good for a TV-movie of this genre. I didn’t happen to particularly enjoy it myself, but it’ll appeal to people who can handle both this quality and genre together.

A bounty hunter from an extinct tribe is hired to undermine the power of an evil king, but the woman he is meant to kill is hot, and complicates things.

As long as it is taken for what it is, it will be entertaining. It is an action movie through and through, and must not be taken as having much of a link to a historical past. It’s not serious, and not meant to be. It’s packed with action, has a reasonable story and its lead character is spectacular.

Seeking ancient Egyptian treasure, amateur archaeologists unleash a curse that threatens the world.

Quite good. Light-hearted fun, with comedy that’s not intrusive, plot that makes sense, good acting, and special effects that do their job without being uncanny.

Hackers (1995) poster

Haunted by a criminal hacking change in his youth, a genius highschool student revives those skills when he makes new friends and discovers a nefarious plot from Superman III. (1983).

This movie is comically fun with enough nods to actual stuff to make it laugh-out-loud for its superiors. I don’t know if (or how) I could recommend this to anyone for any reason. It’s dated in every respect, unrealistic and cheesy with no sign if that’s intentional or not.. yet somehow I enjoy it.

I’d say it’s worth watching for anyone born in the late 70s and early 80s who was into tech in their youth. Even then it’s a weak recommendation. For anyone else, pass. Just. Just pass.

  • PG-13 but has a topless woman sex scene.

The fates of two dumbasses is challenged by an man from their future, bent on bending their future-utopia into his world-domination.

An excellent movie. Though it does suffer from some generation-drift, it suffers far less than its predecessor. It’s not childish, but it is light enough to be “young”. Enjoyable, well-written and recommended. Grab a beer and some popcorn with your buddies and enjoy this at least once.
