A guy, trying to finally pull his life together, has it ruined by a woman who forces him into fatherhood.

Very funny, but ultimately dark as hell.

  • Properly titled Clerks II
  • The woman in the poster is in the movie. I assume they photoshopped some cracker onto her.

The Viking Sagas (1995) image

A prince struggles to avenge his father and free his country.

While watchable, it’s not particularly impressive. It’s not that it’s old, or B-movie or anything like that. It’s reasonable, but feels, somehow, “poor”. Not poor as in bad, but poor as in without wealth. It’s simple. Other than that, I have no complaints other than the lead character has a thick German accent. Like seriously thick. Like what the fuck were you thinking, thick. It’s like The 13th Warrior – (1999 movie) which had one guy with a crazy Irish accent.

A death in Antarctica spurs an investigation that leads to a murder mystery over lost Soviet-era cannisters.

Decent enough to recommend for a watch, but as I’ve seen three times now I can say that it’s a forgettable movie save for Kate Beckensale being hot.

Vampires are real, and a secret council, whose formation is never explained, support a good-vampire on her mission to mercilessly slaughter bad-vampires in search for the worst-vampire who she was told killed her father.

For a while I was quite captivated by this movie. It was good in every respect, but it seemed to take a turn for the worse half way through, and just kept sliding. Overall it’s good, but elements of it are too similar to other famous movies for me to really find it interesting, especially since those elements are rushed.

It’s decent enough to recommend for a one-time watch.

Instead of being allowed to sleep in on his day off, a man is called in to work an extra shift at his convenience store job, and his day goes to complete shit.

The acting is a little halted in places, since these are mostly or perhaps entirely first-timers, but the writing is spectacular. It’s got great flow and style, and is hilarious and memorable.

I first rented this as a VHS tape back in the day, and was immediately impressed. I’m glad this movie, and its author, have done well.

Heavy Metal (1981) image

A girl kills her father, blows up her house to hide the evidence and flees the scene.

While this might have been good at the time, and particularly notable because of the nudity, it’s only vaguely entertaining like a sort of late-night TV-movie. It’s too low-brow compared to science f
iction movies, too adult compared to fantasy movies and too childish for grownups.

I’ll add notes when I re-watch this.

Akira (1988) poster

In a future Tokyo which has survived a massive explosion, a highschool student motorcycle gang stumbles into a military research program whose earlier efforts lead to that disaster, and they become embroiled in the revived project.

A genre-defining movie on so many levels. It portrays a world unique to those unfamiliar with manga (a form of Japanese comics) and has both great storytelling and incredible animation.
