Black Panther - (2018 movie) poster

After the assassination of his father, a new king is crowned for an insular but extraordinary nation, but he does not go unchallenged.

I decided to watch this, breaching my “no more superhero movies” position, because there was some fascinating drama surrounding it.

Not recommended: I can’t understand why anyone would think this is particularly good for any particular reason. Aside from being all manner of racist, it does not provide any intellectual cud to chew on.

Time travelers recruit an everyman to help save their world.

Crude and un-funny.

Pseudo-immortality is reached when alien technology allows humans to save their consciousnesses to reusable disks, and a criminal’s disk is brought online from deep storage, for him to investigate the crime against an ancient and powerful man.

Finally, a science fiction show with real depth and darkness. Highly recommended.

I forgot season 1 and so it basically goes to confusing shit in season 2 so I gave up.

Netforce, a United States federal agency, tracks major hacking activities on the internet that point toward major criminal activities.

Definitely a TV-movie. Mediocre, and only moderately interesting. Definitely missing key elements from the also-boring book.

Net Force - (1998 book), by Tom Clancy image

In a world where everyday people use the internet through total-sensory virtual reality, a specialist intelligence agency tracks down murderers and terrorists.

Slow and confusing, this book isn’t just a challenge to read, it’s a challenge to read with a straight face. One of the risks of speculative science fiction is that they can get very, very, wrong in their predictions. This book hand-waives people being transported into a magical world with no explanation as to how it’s possible or what it’s like. It is vague in everything it demands the reader suspend their disbelief in. It is awed at 900 Mhz computers. This is definitely a 1998 book that had way too much hope for its future.

Supergirl is super, and something about the last of the fleet that isn’t the last, and Leia is immortal and shit characters and shit writing.

The earlier movies are mandatory for this. If you thought the earlier movies were shit, then this is the nail in the coffin. Just let the franchise die.

  • Properly titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Timeline - (1999 book) cover

Archaeologists discover the site they’re working on is surrounded by land owned by their funder, a rich technology company, which is even more interested in it than they.

A riveting book that escalates into a great pace by its middle, and had me turning pages until I finished that latter half in one afternoon. The end chapter is an embarrassingly-bad wrap-up though, which was saddening, but it did not ruin the story.

Highly-recommended. This book has turned me back into a reader.

Hundreds of years from now, surviving humans discover how to send consciousness back through time, into people of the 21st century, while attempting to change the path of humanity.

Kinda not bad.

Some superheroes are assembled, wielding the power of deus ex machnica, and and defeat bad guys that make no sense.

A bad movie, only made passable by Gal Gadot being so ridiculously good looking I lack the words to word about her looks.

I could only get through the first chapter before setting this down. It has flowery awkward old English which I will avoid from now on.
