While researching the annoyance of a 1 minute boot delay waiting for device sda8 to appear, I figured that a kernel update was in order. Unity Linux had a new option that I just had to try out. I thought I’d write a bit about this..

A simple python-only volume control and OSD.
Nothing fancy, and nothing difficult. There’s no configuration, which is both a good and a bad thing.. but I can live with the developer’s defaults. No extra dependencies to speak of. Just Python.

This program adjusts an audio mixer from X11, the console, a terminal, the command line or a script. It uses the Open Sound System API.
This did the job when I needed the job done.

I’ve used it with Blackbox, xfwm, Openbox, etc. It’s wonderful. It’s also the only KDE-compatible tray which I’ve seen.

When it comes to all the fancy software tools out there, I’m finding myself becoming more and more luddite.
I’ve learned through reading and discussion many ways on how to handle data. It’s something I’m always interested in. However, the one thing that I’ve learned – and sometimes the hard way – is that no matter how awesome your handling of your data it all falls to pieces when your tools break.

It’s my nature to gain and lose interest in things, like the tides coming and going. I’ve tried all sorts of tricks to schedule and change focus, but they just don’t work for me. So I’m going to declare a new way of doing things. A way which works to my advantage. I’ll call it “rotating immersion“.
