The widow of an underground-resistance fighter falls in love but her life gets complicated when she learns her husband didn’t die.

I can easily see the allure of this movie, and I don’t have complaints, but it doesn’t do it for me. The legacy of this movie remains in all sorts of little quotes that I recognize. I know I must have seen this years ago, and it’s stuck in my head until even now. I don’t regret re-watching this, but it’s not something I’ll watch again.

A non-secret organization learns of an assassination plot against the delegation of a new country, and brings on board the ex-girlfriend of the man in charge to save them.

Good enough to spark my interest in these old cheezy spy movies and shows.

Stargate Atlantis - (2004-2009 show) logo

A stargate is shown to connect to another galaxy, but the trip proves to be one-way and fraught with new evils.

Fairly good, I guess. It’s definitely not as good as Stargate SG-1 – (1997-2007 show) but is a mandatory view if you like that show.

TODO – There are other media related to this universe, and I’m not sure what order to watch them in.

A pair of secret agents do secret agenty-stuff.

Seems great so far.

  • Alternately called The Man From Uncle.
  • United Network Command for Law and Enforcement

Having discovered an interplanetary teleporter, humans bumble around by sending teams through to other worlds.

Pretty good. It’s definitely got the “TV series” feel to it, which explains how many seasons there are.

  • See Stargate viewing order. This series follows from Stargate – (1994 movie)

    • Watching that movie is not mandatory to watch this series.
    • This series has different actors.
  • The stylized “A” in the title (with the middle bar missing and the circle over it) is a reference to that symbol representing the Earth when programming a stargate.

A detective is haunted with hallucinations that include his dead partner, who was killed under mysterious circumstances.

I think some would find this movie slow and boring, and I did at first, but it very quickly revealed a depth and character that I haven’t seen in any television show before and I doubt I will again.

This isn’t a classic cop-and-mystery show. All I can say is give this a good chance, at least until the end of the second episode.

Bastardy (2008) poster

A documentary that follows Jack Charles for seven years.

A thoughtful movie that focuses more on his fallen-lifestyle than his rise, success, fall and recovery. Though it was not its intention to, I find this movie reveals a lot about how fallen men are treated. No respect, no concern, no support. Acting out and desperation are treated as crimes, not cries.

  • Jack Charles, aka Jackie Charles.
  • “Bastardy” is illegitimacy.
  • Jack Charles on IMDB
  • While Jack is notable, and Bastardy won the 2009 AFI Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary, this film has no Wikipedia entry. I feel that says a lot.

Orcs resurface into and threaten a national park.

While definitely a B-movie, this is well-written and well-acted. It doesn’t really have comedy like most B-movies though, so it doesn’t “work” all that well. Still, I think it’s worth a watch.

Deadpool (2006) poster

Dying of cancer, a dishonourably-discharged special forces soldier submits to experimentation to save his life, which was actually to enslave him and resulted in mutant powers with a scarring side effect, forcing him to hunt down his creator for both revenge and the cure.

An adequate movie on-par with the other adequate superhero movies. This has some significant laugh-out-loud moments, and with a lot of blood and cursing to make it an R-rated movie, it rides on the ho-hum samey-same superhero movie trend all the way to success.

Features nothing new or interesting in the expanded universe. In fact, involves nothing from any other movie whatsoever.

Recommended for those who are hipster for the “superhero genre” movie trend.
