Red Dawn (1984) poster

The Soviets and Cubans invade the United States, and a small band fight to survive.

It’s important to understand this movie in the context of the Cold War. As such, this movie doesn’t exactly stand the test of time in this respect. The 2012 remake had to blame North Korea because our times are different. Back then, this movie had a believable-enough plot line.

The underlying ideas are good, but the actual plot and movie itself do feel old. I like this movie a lot, but only for its concepts. I don’t think it’s re-watchable for a non-survivalist.

Mannequin (1987) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

(on Wikipedia)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093493/

A failure artist finds new muse when his prize mannequin creation comes to life.

A fun and imaginative movie. Easy on the brain. It’s accessible to people who don’t like or want to see a “heavy” romance movie.

Evil returns to find Ash.

Playful. It is clearly capitalizing on the success of the franchise, but it’s not really interesting to me, as though it’s stretching out the story ideas. It’s okay, though not especially recommended. I watched a bit of it, but I’d rather do other things with my life.

Stephen-Fry - More Fool Me (2014) cover 2

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4701426/

This is Stephen speaking on stage and then reading from his book, and not (really) a standup routine.

I like him, and this was enjoyable but not recommended unless a person already knows a bit of him. He is very personable and accessible to me.

Space Adventure Cobra (1982) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

(on Wikipedia)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0163494/

A space-pirate with a huge bounty on his head shags a hottie who turns out to be a crazy magic-woman who was whoring herself so he’ll help her.

This is probably good if you’re into anime. I’m not, so it’s exaggerated and boring to me. Maybe I’m disinterested because it builds on the universe of a whole manga and not much could fit into the length of this movie.

The Martian (2015) poster

Thought dead, an astronaut is left behind on Mars and desperately tries to stay alive and communicate with home.

Not exactly in the caliber of so many other science fiction films, but it’s lighthearted and generally decent.

The last of a powerful race tours time and space, regularly ending up in trouble.

Playful fun. Occasionally attempts to glide past some significant issues with time travel but is generally bubblegum. Doesn’t take itself too seriously. Recommended until it goes woke.

Soylent logo

A meal replacement beverage.

A hands-down spectacular idea and implementation. I ate Soylent for months, and have even eaten it both as a snack, then a meal, and then as my only food. Highly recommended, not just for diet or general health but for lifestyle.
