Tripped (2015) image

A pair of semi-friends get entangled in parallel universes.

Mild British humour. Does not have anywhere near the intellectual weight of actual science fiction. Bubblegum British.

Though I watched the entire thing through, I didn’t really like it. Not recommended for anyone who isn’t a serious fan of British humour enough to be okay with a really weak version of it.

The Wizards of Aus (2016-) image

Escaping the magic realm, a wizard goes to Melbourn Australia to try to live a normal life, but the magical inhabitants from his realm hop on a bandwagon to join him, and end up ruining everything.

Good fun. Not too great, not too funny, but light entertainment. It’s not quite bubblegum. Most especially recommended for fans of fantasy fiction, and even more so for those familiar with the Australian flavour of comedy.

  • This was released as three television episodes, and later released as six parts on YouTube.

A down-and-out semi-lawyer bumbles around his life, trying to make ends meet.

After an entire season I still don’t feel anything for this show.

While the primary fleet is away, fresh-recruits are sent to investigate a distress call from an allied planet.

A reboot and alternate-timeline of the series. It’s “good”, but is also the bubblegum one ought to expect these days.

The Viking Sagas (1995) image

A prince struggles to avenge his father and free his country.

While watchable, it’s not particularly impressive. It’s not that it’s old, or B-movie or anything like that. It’s reasonable, but feels, somehow, “poor”. Not poor as in bad, but poor as in without wealth. It’s simple. Other than that, I have no complaints other than the lead character has a thick German accent. Like seriously thick. Like what the fuck were you thinking, thick. It’s like The 13th Warrior – (1999 movie) which had one guy with a crazy Irish accent.

The Blacklist (2013-) image

A bad guy blackmails the good guys because he likes this one good girl.

My impression from the first few episodes was:

Seems “ok”. Unless this has a more interesting story-arc, I won’t consider this particularly good. The predictable and episodic nature of television bores the shit out of me. It makes a series only valuable only the course of multiple episodes and individual episodes become the shit I have to slog through.

My later impression, from the end of the second season:

Characters were slow and stiff until they were developed more fully. When they were, a broader story arc took hold, making this show quite a bit more interesting.

My final impression:

It gets repetitive and annoying.

Avoid cliffhangers: Watch more when it’s part way into the next season.

Of Silence (2014) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

A story about a man being a man.

A man, like all men, must “man up” instead of showing weakness. Not allowed to talk about his feelings, or ask for help, he is never diagnosed with mental disorders. When his wife dies, he is never offered and can’t seek counselling. When he spirals into depression he cannot talk about it or seek help. When his disorders flare up, he again cannot ask for help. His bills unpaid, he’s still required to suffer quietly until he is driven to suicide or is thrown into the streets. He can’t even talk to his family. He is a man who must be a man.

A movie with no characters, no plot and no purpose. Though I wonder if it intended it, this movie supremely highlights the silent suffering men live with.

A hipster, suffering from blackouts and hallucinations, .. aww fuck it, I can’t watch this garbage.

I hate the style and want to slap the shit out of the actors stupid faces, and if there’s a plot I’m sure I wouldn’t like it.

A brainwashed daughter and her manipulative mother practice a con to satisfy their hypergamy, but love gets in the way.

Mediocre, but worth a watch if you’re fairly interested. It has some moments, but it’s got a kind of campy attitude. While it has a plot, it hand-waves plot-critical character decisions. For me, this wasn’t even a bubblegum-movie. It hurt my brain to sit through it, and only the blistering hotness of Jennifer Love Hewitt could keep me interested.

A top-down action fighting semi-roleplaying game.

I played quite a bit of it until early 2015. Spiral Knights is an exceptional game, but unfortunately as of the last time I played it, it lacks balance and so it lacks variety.

This is an exception to Java sucks, therefore everything made with Java sucks.
