A biopic of Mike Tyson.

It was only fair, and I didn’t finish it. I ended it with the predictably-horrible wife.

A handful of Nazi scientists have toiled in secret to find and use a ring kept by some Americans in Egypt which they believe leads to an advanced civilization.

A rehash of other ideas done in a somewhat more amateur way, with a cheap ending as a prequel to either the original movie or series. Interesting to watch if you’re a fan of the franchise but absolutely skippable if you’re not.

It’s fast and loose, and has a lot of explosions and such; meh.

Tron - Legacy (2010) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

(on Wikipedia)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/

The misbehaving millionaire son of a lost father learns that his disappearance was in a digital world he authored but was trapped in after a coup from its inhabitants.

The uncanny valley of the main baddy / young version of the main character is terrible. What would have been amazing is if the effect were really really improved for the “true” version of the character, but kept uncanny for his copy, Clu.

However, the soundtrack, hell the audio, and the sheer scale of the movie is astonishing. I know others don’t find this movie appealing, but I love it so damned much. I love it beyond the nostalgia of the original, but as an entirely separate movie.

Oh so very highly recommended.

  • 3:00 — God that CGI was uncanny back then and is still uncanny now. This movie could have easily done away with this directness and just hinted at it.
  • 6:30 — His license plate was briefly visible.
  • 7:45 — I presume there are no cameras pointed at that secure area’s entrance.
  • 9:15 — Nikkei 225
  • 13:45 — He had to be near the sixth floor before opening his parachute.
  • 15:00 — So he just walks away? Oh right, he’s rich.
  • 16:15 — Did the dog unwrap the hamburger?
  • 21:00 — He left the front door ajar.
  • 22:30 — That is a stupidly-advanced keyboard for the time.
  • 45:30 — I didn’t see him get his disk back.
  • 46:30 —

    • Where’d he get his spare bike from?
    • There were two opportunities during the race to blow a hole through the wall.
  • 52:15 — Go (game)
  • 1:01:30 — “The only way to win is not to play” might be a callback to WarGames – (1983 movie).
  • 1:05:45 — So is that light cycle made for off-road travel?
  • 1:20:00 — Freighthopping
  • 1:23:30 — Various references I won’t bother noting.
  • 1:28:30 — How could she know CLU has the disk?
  • 1:39:30 — I don’t understand why he’d give a speech to indoctrinated soldiers.
  • 1:49:45 — How was Flynn’s son in the middle of the three? There were four seats before.
  • 1:51:45 — Sudden grappling hook. Sudden sword.
  • 1:56:00 — So how long was he in there, and who took care of his dog?

2016-05-17

  • 0:30 — Narration
  • 0:45 — Oh god, the music is amazing.
  • 1:30 — 1989
  • 2:00 — TRON

    • What’s that stand for?
  • 2:30 —

    • A “program in his own image”, as in god.
    • Oh god, the uncanny valley is terrible.
    • CLU — Codified Likeness Utility
  • 2:45 — “.. where all information was free and open.” is probably a need for free and open-source software (FOSS)
  • 3:30 — What a condescending tone.
  • 5:15 —

In there, in the new world
    In there is our future
    In there is our destiny

  • 6:00 — The song that made me fall in love with this movie.
  • 7:45 — This feels like an homage to one of the Terminator films (The Terminator – (1984 movie) etc).
  • 10:00 — With the guard acting that way, and there being only one guard, it seems easy to lure or bait him.
  • 12:00 — He’s using a Unix/Linux terminal.
  • 13:15 — You can’t steal without taking it away from someone. Copying data isn’t stealing. It’s piracy. Piracy is not stealing.
  • 13:45 — BASE jumping
  • 15:15 — Rich kids get out of jail easily.
  • 17:00 — Pager
  • 21:15 — That was a rather short song.
  • 22:15 — Touch screen in the 80s is unthinkable.
  • 22:45 — SolarOS 4.0.1 Generic_50203-02 sun4m i386

    • That appears to be a Unix/Linux type environment. Possibly an early Solaris from that name.
    • Haha, “backdoor”.
  • 31:30 — I like the face guard. Because safety first.
  • 45:00 — How does he know to sheath it on his thigh?

  • 52:30 — Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, I Ching,

  • 53:45 — Cal Tech (California Institute of Technology)
  • 56:00 — “Manifested”. See also Spontaneous generation
  • 1:04:00 — Voyages extraordinaires (1863-1905 books), by Jules Verne
  • 1:05:45 — Why would that bike be able to drive off the grid?
  • 1:09:00 — They’re Daft Punk.
  • 1:09:30 — I recognize that actor from Underworld – (2003 movie).
  • 1:10:00 — He’s talking rather openly.
  • 1:17:30 — Why not kill her outright?
  • 1:20:15 — But if he beats CLU there, how would he get out without his disk?
  • 1:28:45 — I’m still confused as to how getting out would help anything. Enough time would pass in-grid that he’d also get out at roughly the same time.
  • 1:30:30 — A rescue (Animal rescue group)
  • 1:52:00 — Where did she get that grappling hook from? Where did she get that sword from?
  • 1:55:15 — Yep, a whole city can fit on a portable drive.
  • 1:57:30 — I’ll take her, to go. And by “take her”, I mean take her. It turns out the actor isn’t all that hot, but holy shit does that character tug at my heart.
