• dialog can now be used to pop up a new terminal window and get user input. Because I said so.

  • Dialog now replaces Zenity, which has been killed.

• Updated rxvt-unicode and Unicode VGA font with the new knowhow on how to get things working.

  • Unfortunately, bdf2pcf was being a bitch, so I rescued the font from my previous installation.

• Screen has been edited with a new su trick.

  • I’d like to take partial credit for cobbling it together from various sources. • Holy shit it turns out I use a lot of GTK+ software, and there’s no way I could strip it from my distribution.

  • This will be a problem when they go full-evil.
• Now that I’ve made the switch to Slackware 14.1, I’ve continued to work on improving items in /tag/linux-software+live+liked as I install them.

• Watched a little Andromeda – (2000 show), s03e04+

• Updated boot-repair since I’ll be setting it aside as a LiveUSB stick.

  • I doubt I’ll be dual booting Lubuntu for much longer, but just in case I splat my bootloader I may need something handier than the Lubuntu LiveUSB, a net connection and installing boot-repair so I can use it.
• Updated Slackware reviews with good notes on how I got Slackware 14.1 running.
• /tag/gnu-software got a once-over.

• Updated Slackware software, tagged /tag/linux-software+live+loved, updating some with Slackware (14.1)-specific installation/configuration notes.

  • Most new programs could be easily installed with \slpkg -s sbo PACKAGENAME .. there are quite a few popular programs already supported.
  • So far the only exceptions to the slpkg rule has been eCryptfs. I may end up writing a SlackBuilds script to compiled this myself.
  • I’m also continuing to work on /tag/linux-software+live+liked
• Although there is some more adjustment to make, all appropriate Slackware-related topics have been updated with any notes I’ve kept, either on paper or in a textfile, during my experimentation with, and installation of, Slackware.

• Updated slpkg with instructions on how to bootstrap it: Compiling and installing slpkg from its SlackBuild script.

  • Any SlackBuild-supported program can be compiled in this manner, making slpkg itself optional. Why anyone would want to do this is beyond me.

• Updated MPlayer and SMPlayer. Apparently gMPlayer is the official frontend, but it’s GTK and at this point I want to avoid such software.

  • Hi, SpaceFM, when will you be switching, maybe to qT? =)

• Updated My ideal Linux distribution to compare against my experiences with Slackware.

  • It turns out that Slackware mostly checks all the boxes, but also that I’m pretty easy to please.
  • Again, I wish I knew about isohybrid during my three or more rounds of distribution-testing.

• Updated Linux distributions to make a nice table.

  • A table with two entries, but it’s still pretty.
  • Figured out the CSS for a horizontal scroll bar.

  • Figured out the CSS to have lines not wrap at whitespace.
    white-space: nowrap;
  • Slackware and Lubuntu were updated with this table. I wish there were a simple way to avoid this duplication, but .. such is life. This isn’t a wiki. Well it is, but it’s not supposed to be. Screw you and your “rules”.
• Updated various /tag/linux-software+live items with new (for them) tags:
  – disliked
  – liked
  – loved, which is to tag items which I consider mandatory.
  – Also, /tag/linux-software+zombie+loved does exist, for those tools I consider mandatory to have “somewhere”, usually on a LiveUSB stick for emergencies.

• Updated various /tag/linux-distributions with liked / disliked

  • Had I known about boot-repair back then, I could have properly tested many of these.
• DOSEMU’s vga font was created, but back-dated to be alongside its peers since it’s been in my toolkit since well before this blog.

• Chipping away at the various programs I’m getting working under Slackware. I have some notes I have to clean up and post online.
