An American captain, suffering from PTSD-induced nightmares so bad he became alcoholic, is brought back into the trade as a consultant and trainer to suppress the civil war in Japan and fight against its old warrior class, the samurai.
Dare I say this is one of the greats. It has various classic elements without being tiring and obvious, and maintains a great pace and tone.

A scientist from the future goes back in time to do (stuff that I wasn't paying attention enough to figure out), but his assistant's daughter goes back to stop him with the help of one of the grandfather's of time travel.
For an old TV-movie this is pretty good.
The actual movie is copyright 1986.

Three movie stars, mistaken for the heroes they portray, are lead to Mexico to protect townsfolk.
Maybe this was good in the context in which it was made, but god damn is it awful now.

A child with an allergy to peanuts hallucinates an indian statue as Tonto telling him a story with the Lone Ranger.
Johnny Depp has started taking terrible cornball roles, and this movie is a steaming pile of shit. His native-American character feels cringeworthingly blackface-esque. I can see how the occasional comedic bit can make a movie fun, but the entire spirit of this movie feels just a touch too serious for there to be the right comedy-adventure feeling like that in Pirates of the Caribbean꞉ The Curse of the Black Pearl - (2003 movie).

Some people with accents drive a carriage through the snow and talk a lot.
Oh god, this was supposed to be good? If it can't get interesting in the first half an hour then why in the fuck should I continue watching?

Guild bounty hunters hunt bounties and stuff.
I like it so far.
I am reminded of Firefly - (2002 show).

A space-western with a motley down-and-out crew struggling on the edge of a semi-dystopian planet-spanning civilization.
Easily one of the best television shows I've ever seen. I don't just consider this mandatory, I will dog people to watch it. I bought two copies of this series just to give one away.
Let me stress this. This is a series so good that even after cancellation there was enough popularity to produce a movie. A movie for a cancelled series. The only one I've ever heard of. Serenity - (2005 movie) is itself mandatory viewing for those who have enjoyed Firefly.
Mandatory viewing. I have been brought to tears more than once.
Continues with Serenity - (2005 movie)
