A crew of civilians investigates a distress beacon, but it turn out to be a warning that they were too late to heed.

Alien is another “first to get there” movie which has set the bar for its sub-genre.

It has a dirty old-but-futuristic look to it that really stretches its technological and budgetary limitations. As it turns out, this has given the movie incredible longevity. For a movie as old as this, it easily stands the test of time.

Logan - (2017 movie) image

Logan (Wolverine) gets tangled up with a girl fleeing a mutant research and breeding lab that is definitely nothing like that of Dark Angel – (2000 show).

Not recommended.

This is like a DC version of X-Men. It was passable at best, and a good way to put the whole series and concept of comic book movies to bed. I think I’ll end them all on this low note.

  • 2:30 — The claw thing is a reference to drunk men having trouble achieving full erection.
  • 3:15 — Shooting him didn’t do anything, why would they fight him, let alone try to stab him?
  • 4:00 — Texas license plate WER 112

    • Is he in Texas?
  • 4:15 —

    • West 62 — Is that West Virginia Route 62?
    • El Paso is in Texas. So apparently there were Spanish-speaking gangsters in Texas for some reason. Is that a thing?
  • 4:45 — So apparently he can (or needs to) flex bullets out now.
  • 5:00 — The year 2029
  • 5:15 — He’s a professional limousine driver.
  • 9:00 — “South of the border” a reference to Mexico.

Inspired by the French Revolution, a rebellion is launched against Spaniards in South America.

This movie leverages the “yeah freedom!” but spins the old yarn that all of the rich are bad and oppressors and the poor are good and oppressed. Entertaining, though propagandistic. It is particularly interesting to think of the underlying themes of the events portrayed in this movie, and how Socialism has plunged Venezuela into a dark age. I don’t know that I would bother recommending this; it’s alright.

  • aka Libertador
  • Although this is in Spanish, a tiny amount is English, and a tinier amount is in French.

Netforce, a United States federal agency, tracks major hacking activities on the internet that point toward major criminal activities.

Definitely a TV-movie. Mediocre, and only moderately interesting. Definitely missing key elements from the also-boring book.

A superspy agency suffers apocalyptic disaster as a precursor to a global hostage act.

A-list actors join to demonstrate their irrelevancy. This is a mildly amusing movie.. but with a lack of comedy and uninteresting action, it’s not recommended.

A centuries-old man is embroiled in a sword-fight between other immortals.

This is one of those movies which forged my young self, but I cannot recommend to others. It definitely feels dated, and I doubt its ideas would be particularly shaping to others compared to the other movies created since this one.

A great movie that stands apart both from its contemporaries and even from movies of today. It touches upon a lot of topics I find interesting in movies.

A team investigates the killing of genetics researchers by their secret laboratory’s artificial intelligence, learning it had a good reason to do so.

Quite good, even after its era. It does not show much age except for one monster. This movie headed the resurrection of the zombie movie sub-genre.

TODO – To watch with commentary and all the bonus material.
