Laser things, move things, push things and find your way through semi-puzzle stuff.

With an art style (and opening sequences) reminiscent of Borderlands – (2009 game) and gameplay reminiscent of Okami – (2006 game), this game has a very strong initial impression on me.

Not open-world, and definitely “on rails”, but it does give a lot of power to the user as to how to fart around to progress.

While overall good, the controls are wonky and cliffs are obnoxious. There should be no falling off mechanic and the game should instead dangle the player for a moment and never let them fall.

A top-down shooter game which uses music to generate levels.

Absolutely fantastic! HOWEVER progress is not auto-saved! Who the fuck makes a game where you can abandon everything you’ve played just by pressing a button too many times?!

Explore, survive, gather and trade while making your way to the galactic core.

Every single described goal of this game has failed. It is a bad flight-simulator, with bad crafting, bad technology, and bad survival mechanics. It is set on procedurally generated planets so vast that nothing matters, in a procedurally-generated universe so vast that nothing matters. What’s worse is that it is so godawfully crowded with hand-holding that it becomes both easy and repetitive. Being ugly and with abysmal performance, it’s not even an exploration time-waster.

Perhaps in some years they will change/fix many of its issues, but I believe it has a fundamental casualness to it that anchors its core gameplay problems. This is not a game made for gamers.

2017-05-07 update: I tried it again, and it just isn’t worth it. If its graphics were the same as before (they’re busted now) then maybe. I have another video card but I’m not going to swap things around or fiddle with installing an old version of my card’s drivers. I just don’t want to bother any more.

If you have Borderlands 2, stick with it until you’ve played through it, through its true vault hunter mode and through every. single. DLC. There are a lot.

Then buy this, but only if you’re a serious fan of Borderlands 2.

If you are new to the series and new to Borderlands 2, go buy and play Borderlands 2! It’s great. This is just more of that, but with added obnoxiousness.

The Minecraft for EverQuest Next.

I was invited to the closed beta in 2014-06-15. I tried it for maybe 45 minutes before throwing my hands up in complete disgust.

I have no interest in this now that EverQuest Next has been aborted.

A MMO whose defining qualities are its maturity, user base and low system-requirements.

Recently focusing entirely on endgame, to the detriment of all earlier content. Instead of improving the game in measurable ways, its developers use desperate psychology to string along its user base. DO NOT PLAY unless you’re already playing. Then DO NOT STOP.

Once anything comes along that’s decent, haul ass and bring everyone with you. Consider, for example, Guild Wars 2 – (2012 game).

A free-to-play 2.5D action semi-rpg game. Get gear, assign your abilities, explore and kill. Procedurally-generated areas and special “maps” give end-game replayability.

While straightforward to get into, it becomes atonishingly complex and unashamedly hard. They are also committed to keeping the game “hardcore” and not stooping to the level of appeasing the filthy casuals who ruin other games. This includes not avoiding pay to win.

Its developers care about their game more than any other developer for any other game I’ve played or have even heard of. Other than the little things, the game gets major updates every three months. Major as in expansion-quality new stuff.

Their community participation is strong.
