Students decide it’s a good idea to blindly pursue teleportation without watching some scifi first.
Really wonderful, moody, and well-acted. Great idea and writing; highly recommended.

A rag-tag crew of space-smugglers becomes embroiled in a plot to capture one of its crew which expands into them going up against the whole of the multiplanetary alliance.
One of the best movies I’ve seen. It’s concise, extraordinarily well-acted, looks great, and has a phenomenal story. I don’t know that I’d recommend this for people who haven’t seen Firefly – (2002 show), but for those who have seen and liked the series this film becomes mandatory viewing, though only after a long while after watching the series.

When an energy source wielding time itself is first tested, it’s inventors (and staff) become shrouded in a quantum fog.
Creative and brilliantly executed!

Corporate and terrorist factions fight over the technology to resurrect people shortly after death.
Even-toned from acting, to pace, to the subtleties of world-building; excellent.

An experimental undersea oil drilling rig is sent to investigate a downed US military submarine with nuclear missiles.
Phenomenal and showing very little age.
Inappropriately-rated; PG-13, but with self-harm and a boob.

Failed-scientists begin a ghost capturing service, and the need for their services grows, threatening all of New York city.
I don’t have a lot of movies anything like this which I could consider listing as mandatory, so this one gets in pretty easily.

A hacker learns reality is not as it appears.
A sci-fi ripoff of elements of Lucid dreaming, with elements taken from the Neuromancer/Shadowrun “cyberpunk” genres.
A pioneering movie for special effects, which have held up quite well, and its general pot and atmosphere. Technically not original for science fiction fans, but great nonetheless.
One of my favourites, although I really wish the actor playing Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) was good looking.

Better than the main series in some cases. I rather love every one of these short films.

A couple moves to a quiet and friendly town, but the wife, with no job and her kids grown up, has enough free time to be unhappy.
Many movies build very slowly, and this one comes from a time when that was acceptable. So if you can handle have the patience to not fidget while you wait for “the big reveal” then you will definitely like this.
Based on The Stepford Wives – (1972 book), by Ira Levin
