A disturbed child convinces a complete stranger that she’s his mother, embroiling her in a town-wide fantasy with his sociopathic mother as an adversary.

I guess this would be entertaining for little girls. This didn’t grab me in the first few episodes. It needs more explosions, or maybe a male role model.

  • Abandoned – ABC doesn’t list it any more.
  • Trailer

A corporate drone goes mad and spirals into psychopathy, violently lashing out at society.

An absolutely mandatory film. As heavy-handed as its anti-corporatism is, it has fantastic subtleties requiring multiple viewings. There are very few movies which can achieve this level of watchability. This is absolutely an A-class dudebro movie.

A nerd fulfils his dream of being on the high school football team and has a crush on a geek girl, a desperately lonely single mother and an ex-assassin neighbour.

Not a dudebro movie and not a chick flick. I’m not sure where this stands, but it’s watchable.

A hooker is picked up by a business man and they end up spending a week together, encouraging both her transformation and his.

Strongly disliked. With overtones of all manner of female masterbatory bullshit from hypergamy to princess-saving, this film is a tooth-grinder.

A time capsule shot into space back in 1982 is received as a declaration of war by aliens, who respond with multiple waves of 1980s video games-made-real, which only lifetime-loser video game nerds can face.

Uh. From the ground up, this movie cannot work. It’s a kids movie which relies upon the nostalgia only a handful of middle-aged men might have but hopefully won’t.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana is ground zero for a zombification-virus.

While not great, it could have done a whole lot worse. Navy Seals vs. Zombies is probably worth a watch for zombie and military fans, if there’s nothing better around.

I didn’t get through it. It had nothing interesting to offer me.

A great MMORPG with spectacular mechanics but no endgame.

I had a lot of fun with it way back when, but my most recent visit had me wandering around in circles for an inexcusable length of time. An utter failure. Still highly recommended.

A struggling writer takes drugs, giving him incredible results with unforeseen consequences.

This is an uncomfortably-great movie. It’s semi-horror in the sense of a tactile empathy the viewer has. I don’t know that I’d consider this mandatory viewing, because it would strongly depend on the viewer. I don’t think this would be a “love it or hate it” movie, because it’s .. just odd. It’s original, and that alone would make it mandatory viewing for some.

Alien Nation (1989-1990) poster

A buddy cop series, but with aliens, with overtones of very difficult social topics.

This is surprisingly good, either in addition to, or separate from, the movie. While I didn’t particularly like the movie, this series is recommended. Anyone who liked the original movie should definitely continue the franchise with this series.

  • This continues from Alien Nation – (1988 movie), including a story arc.

    • I don’t know what it is about the series, but it has left a much stronger positive impression than the film.
